Application of brushed DC motor in smart door lock

Smart locks are being used more and more as users emphasize the security of their homes. Not only can they be controlled remotely, but more importantly, they eliminate the need to carry a physical key. Traditionally, many smart lock designs use stepper motors. These motors are compact, reliable, and tend to work well. However, in some cases, they are larger and heavier than needed, which can limit the flexibility of the module design.

For smart door locks, the key to internal motor design specifications is size, performance, and reliability.

1. Size

Most motors are integrated into the module, and even in some application scenarios, it may be necessary to install the mechanism inside the door, so the motor structure must be compact.

2. Performance

The torque of the motor is a very important performance. The motor must be able to operate the door lock in harsh environments, which includes overcoming increased lock friction over time. If battery power is used, then the motor should also consume as little power as possible to extend battery life.

Motor speed and low noise levels also need to be considered. A few extra seconds in the response time of an electronic lock can inconvenience the user. Noisy locks are especially annoying when used late at night or early in the morning.

3. Reliability

Providing a reliable product means that the motor needs to operate at the expected performance level for many years. This has been verified and confirmed through reliability testing. Brushed motors do not require as complex a control as stepper motors. DC brushed motors operate by simply applying voltage to the terminals. When the current is reversed, the motor rotation is reversed; when the current is stopped, the motor stops. This functionality is all that is needed in electronic lock applications.

Zhengke Motors has utilized its expertise in motor design to develop unique miniature brushed DC motors. These brushed DC motors are high torque and small in size, providing greater design flexibility for smart door locks.

1. ZGA37RG

The ZYTD-520 series motors are 50% smaller than comparable motors, yet deliver twice the output torque. The greater torque provides more options for door lock applications. It also reduces tooth grooves and lowers noise.

2. ZGA12FT-FN20

As an alternative, the N20 motor series features a low-profile housing and patented terminal design, making it ideal for space-constrained applications.

Zhengke Motors Brushed DC motors are available in different options for applications requiring low to medium performance. These motors will provide more flexibility in your module design while meeting all expected performance requirements.
